edgeMED Healthcare, LLC ("edgeMED"), a medical billing company based in Boca Raton, Florida, reported a data breach due to a recent cybersecurity incident, during which confidential patient information was compromised.
edgeMED discovered that an unauthorized party had gained access to sensitive consumer data, including names, treatment codes, provider names, and additional information about patients' visits. After conducting an investigation, edgeMED took immediate action to notify all individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
As a medical billing company, edgeMED provides billing services to various healthcare facilities.
On May 26, 2023, edgeMED experienced a data security incident. The investigation revealed that an unauthorized party had gained access to edgeMED's IT network between May 20, 2023, and May 26, 2023.
In the incident multiple files were compromised and exposed data of individuals, including
- names,
- treatment codes,
- healthcare provider names,
- additional details related to visits.
On May 29, edgeMED began notifying its healthcare clients about the breach.
The specific affected facilities are not disclosed nor the number of affected individuals.
Subsequently, on July 6, 2023, edgeMED Healthcare began sending out data breach letters to all individuals who were affected by the recent data security incident.
