Helix, a Russian medical laboratory, faced a serious cyberattack that disrupted its systems and prevented customers from accessing their test results for several days. The attack involved hackers attempting to infect the company's systems with ransomware. As per usual, the immediate mitigating action was shutting down of multiple systems at Helix.

While Helix's tech team was able to partially restore the functionality of its website, mobile app, and e-health services without paying a ransom, the service disruptions led to delays in delivering medical test results to customers.

Helix confirmed that no customer personal data was compromised during the attack. Customers are nevertheless frustratated at not being able to access their test results and are seeking refunds. Others customers indicated that they needed their test results urgently for hospitalization purposes or to obtain COVID-19 test results.

Helix has reset all customer passwords and implemented stronger security protocols. The incident is being investigated, and Helix may involve law enforcement agencies depending on the findings of the investigation.

As for the identity and motivations of the hackers, they remain unclear. It is uncertain whether the attack was financially motivated through ransom demands or politically motivated, given the geopolitical tensions involving Russia.
