ESO Solutions healthcare software provider reports data breach impacting 2.7 million people

ESO Solutions, a company specializing in healthcare and fire department software, experienced a ransomware attack that led to a data breach affecting approximately 2.7 million patients. Following the discovery of the breach, ESO Solutions reported the incident to the FBI and state authorities.
The cyber incident, which took place on September 28, involved unauthorized access and extraction of data, followed by the encryption of several of the company's systems. The breach was discovered when it was found that a machine containing sensitive personal data was accessed by the attackers.
The types of personal information compromised in the breach include patients':
- full names,
- birth dates,
- phone numbers,
- patient account or medical record numbers,
- details about injuries,
- diagnoses,
- treatments,
- procedures,
- Social Security Numbers.
Specific data exposed varied for each individual, based on the information they had provided to the healthcare organizations using ESO's software and the type of care services they received.
Notifications were sent to all affected customers on December 12, and subsequently, some of the hospitals began informing their patients about the breach. ESO Solutions has reassured that there is currently no evidence of misuse of the compromised information.
As a precautionary measure, ESO Solutions is offering a 12-month identity monitoring service through Kroll to all those who received the breach notification
