EV Charger Manufacturer ELECQ Hit by Ransomware Attack Exposing Customer Data

ELECQ, a Chinese manufacturer of smart electric vehicle (EV) chargers, reports a ransomware attack detected on March 7, 2025, after the company identified suspicious activity within its Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environment.
The attackers successfully encrypted and stole customer databases before the company could isolate the affected systems. The company claims that the charging hardware itself is not affected and that the breach was confined to the management and account infrastructure. The compromised data includes:
- Full names
- Email addresses
- Phone numbers
- Home addresses
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
A notice was sent to customers. The incident was reported to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and Germany’s Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI).
