Mortgage Industry Advisory Corporation (MIAC) filed a data breach notice on behalf of FirstBank Puerto Rico, revealing that a cyberattack targeted the bank's IT network and resulted in customer data being leaked.
MIAC has started sending out data breach notification letters to affected individuals, providing information on the specific data that was compromised.
While the types of leaked data have not been confirmed, leaked Social Security numbers have been reported in breaches affecting other financial institutions associated with MIAC.
The breach was discovered on April 6, 2023, and MIAC informed FirstBank Puerto Rico on May 2, 2023. MIAC is currently reviewing the compromised files to determine the extent of the breach. FirstBank Puerto Rico, also known as First Bancorp, is the largest bank in Puerto Rico.
