Fort Wayne Medical Education Program hit ransomware attack, affects almost 30,000 people

The Fort Wayne Medical Education Program (FWMEP), a healthcare organization focused on advancing healthcare through medical education, research, and community service is reporting a cyberattack that was detected on December 17, 2024. 

The ransomware group INC RANSOM claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting that they obtained approximately 66 GB of the organization's data. 

The investigation, concluded that hackers had accessed or stole data from FWMEP's systems between December 12 and December 17, 2024. The exposed data includes:

  • First and last names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver's license or state ID numbers
  • Passport numbers
  • Government-issued identification numbers
  • Dates of birth
  • Medical histories
  • Health insurance information
  • Medical billing details, including bank account numbers
  • Payment or credit card numbers (excluding CVC codes)

The data breach affected 29,485 individuals.

On October 2, 2025, FWMEP began notifying impacted individuals in writing. The organization is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services to individuals whose Social Security numbers were compromised. FWMEP has also established a dedicated assistance line at 1-833-809-4990 for affected individuals who have questions or concerns about the breach.
