Freedom Mobile, Canada's fourth-largest wireless provider serving over 2.2 million subscribers, reports a data breach that compromised the personal information of customers.
The company detected unauthorized activity on its customer account management platform on October 23, 2025. The breach occurred when a threat actor exploited the compromised credentials of a subcontractor to gain unauthorized access to the carrier's systems.
The investigation confirmed that the attacker had accessed customer records but no payment information or passwords were affected. The exposed data includes:
- First and last names
- Home addresses
- Dates of birth
- Phone numbers (home and/or cell)
- Freedom Mobile account numbers
Freedom Mobile has not disclosed the number of affected customers, referring only to a "limited number" of impacted subscribers.
Freedom Mobile warned customers to be cautious of unexpected messages requesting personal information or directing them to websites to enter such details, emphasizing that the company will never ask for credit card numbers, banking information, passwords, or PIN codes via email or SMS.
