Gallery Systems, a provider of museum software solutions, recently disclosed that its ongoing IT outages were the result of a ransomware attack on December 28th. Formed in April 2022 after merging with Artsystems, Gallery Systems serves over 800 museums, including prestigious clients like MoMA, Met, and SFMOMA.
This attack led to the encryption of certain computer systems, disrupting operations and online services. The identity of the threat actors behind the attack remains unknown, and Gallery Systems has yet to provide further information on the incident's full impact.
The ransomware attack forced the company to take its systems offline, impacting services like the eMuseum online public viewing platform.
Gallery Systems is working to restore access using the last available backups and has notified law enforcement while conducting an internal investigation.
