As a business services provider, GC Services specializes in various outsourcing services, including collections.
On September 11, 2023, GC Services encountered a network outage, disrupting their access to the computer network. Subsequently, they engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the issue. This inquiry revealed that from September 11 to September 20, 2023, an unauthorized party had access to GC Services' network, potentially acquiring files containing confidential consumer information.
GC Services completed a review of the compromised files by December 26, 2023, to ascertain the extent of the data breach and identify the affected consumers. The exposed data includes:
- Names
- Addresses
- Social Security numbers
- Dates of birth
The nature of the attack and the number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
Following the investigation, GC Services began issuing notification letters on January 25, 2024, to inform the impacted individuals about the breach. These letters aim to detail the specific information compromised for each victim.
