The Norwegian Government Security and Service Organisation (DSS) has reported a cyberattack on the ICT platform used by 12 ministries, and the incident is currently under investigation by the police.
The attack was identified due to “unusual” traffic on the supplier’s platform. It was uncovered on July 12 and was being investigated by the authorities.
The attack exploited a previously unknown vulnerability in software from one of the suppliers, which has now been fixed.
The identity of the attackers and the full extent of the attack are still unknown.
DSS has established a crisis team to handle the situation, and the incident has also been reported to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority.
As a precautionary measure, extra security measures have been implemented, which temporarily restrict employees' access to DSS's shared services on their mobile phones.
Further details about the incident are being withheld to support the ongoing investigation. The ICT platform is utilized by various ministries, except for a few key ones.
