Greer's Commission of Public Works (GCPW) in South Carolina is reporting a data breach that compromised the personal information of more than 14,000 customers. 

GCPW is a municipal utility organization that provides essential services such as water, wastewater, and potentially other utilities to residents and businesses in Greer, South Carolina.

The attack occurred on June 19, 2025, but was not detected for approximately one week until June 26, 2025. GCPW launched an investigation with third-party forensic experts. The investigation concluded on November 6, 2025 and confirmed that the attacker infiltrated the network and accessed files containing customer information. The exposed data includes:

  • Social Security numbers
  • Full names
  • Other identifying information

The nature of the attack is not disclosed. GCPW has stated that there is currently no evidence suggesting that the stolen information has been misused or exploited for fraudulent purposes. 

GCPW is offering all impacted individuals one year of complimentary credit monitoring services, which include access to credit reports and credit score monitoring. The organization has established a dedicated assistance hotline at 833-647-0310 for customers who have questions or concerns about the incident.
