Vivamax, a popular video-on-demand service has supposedly experienced a major data breach, potentially putting millions of subscribers at risk.
Vivamax is a video-on-demand platform based in the Philippines, offering a range of local content, including movies, TV shows, and other entertainment options. The service is owned by Viva Communications Inc., a prominent entertainment company in the Philippines led by Vic Del Rosario.
The cybersecurity watchdog Deep Web Konek (DWK) reported on July 26 that the breach has compromised the personal information of approximately 6.8 million Vivamax subscribers. The breach has been attributed to a hacker known as “BitBanish,” who has listed the stolen data for sale on a dark web forum.
The exposed data includes:
- Full names
- Phone numbers
- Email addresses
- Country of registration
- Account creation dates
- Subscription IDs
- Subscription start and end times
- Subscription types (Google, Huawei, Card, Apple, PayMaya)
- Parental control PINs
The nature of the attack is not disclosed.
The data can be exploited for identity theft, phishing attacks and the exposure of parental control PINs could compromise the safety of minors using the service.
As of now, Vivamax has not issued an official statement regarding the breach.
