Hong Kong Post reports data breach
Hong Kong Post has joined the growing list of local organizations facing a data security breach, with 7,249 registered email addresses exposed in an cyber incident.
Per the statement from the Secretariat Press Office released on Friday, the breach involved an unauthorized party repeatedly attempting to test and guess the registered email addresses of Hongkong Post's account holders through its electronic service function. Fortunately, sensitive information such as transactions, login names, and passwords remained secure.
Hong Kong Post took immediate action to notify all account holders on the same day, involve law enforcement by reporting the incident to the police, and seekguidance from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data.
