Hub International Ltd, a global insurance brokerage firm announced on Friday 11th of August that it experienced a cybersecurity breach late last year, resulting in unauthorized access to sensitive data pertaining to some of its employees and customers.

Upon detecting the breach on January 17, the brokerage took action by isolating the affected systems, launching a forensic investigation, and initiating the notification process after concluding its initial data review last month.

Hub identified that an unidentified individual gained access to sections of its website, and during the period between December 2022 and January 2023, they opened and copied files. The accessed data pertains to existing and former employees, individuals associated with insurance policies placed by Hub, and individuals linked to insurance carriers and employers served by Hub. The breach predominantly impacted the U.S. operations of the company.

The nature of the compromised data varies from person to person, encompassing

  • Social Security numbers,
  • driver's license numbers,
  • passport numbers,
  • financial account details,
  • health insurance information,
  • medical records.

No details are disclosed of to the number of affected individuals or the nature of the attack.

In response to the breach, Hub is providing credit monitoring services to the affected individuals and has set up a dedicated call center to address inquiries and offer assistance, as highlighted in an official statement.
