The New Jewish Home, a New York City-based nonprofit healthcare organization previosly known as Jewish Home Lifecare, is reporting a data breach affecting over 104,000 individuals.

The breach was detected on January 7, 2024, when the organization noticed unusual activity within its network. In February 2024, the Alphv/BlackCat ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack, alleging they had exfiltrated various sensitive documents, including clinical research databases, financial and employee records, and documents suggesting misuse of donated funds. The group even shared screenshots as evidence, though it remains unclear if the stolen files were publicly posted.

The attackers accessed sensitive data related to patients and other community members, including:

  • Names
  • Addresses
  • Dates of birth
  • Social Security numbers
  • Financial account information
  • Payment card details
  • Passport numbers
  • Medical records and treatment details

The New Jewish Home began notifying affected individuals and i offering them complimentary credit monitoring services. The organization emphasized that there is no current evidence indicating that the compromised data has been or will be fraudulently misused, but it issued notifications out of an abundance of caution.
