Laborers' International Union of North America Local 1184 (LiUNA) is reporting a data breach following a ransomware attack that occurred in November 2024. Laborers' International Union of North America Local 1184 is a labor union based in Brawley, California, representing workers in the construction industry in and around Saginaw. It is affiliated with the larger Laborers' International Union of North America, which has over 500,000 members throughout the United States and Canada.

The breach was caused by a ransomware attack that began on November 17, 2024, when unauthorized actors gained access to LiUNA's IT network and deployed ransomware. Although the union regained control of its systems the following day (November 18, 2024), the attackers had already accessed confidential data stored on the network during this period.

The compromised personal information varies by individual but may include:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Membership numbers
  • Telephone numbers
  • Home addresses
  • Email addresses
  • Work dispatch records

The data breach potentially impacts current and former LiUNA members, other individuals represented by the union, and union employees. The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.

LiUNA began sending notification letters to affected individuals on March 31, 2025.
