The Lockbit ransomware gang has taken responsibility for a cyber attack targeting Sabena Engineering. The Belgian aerospace firm is notably involved in the logistical support for the provision of F-16 fighter aircraft, a critical component of a collaborative defense effort among NATO allies.

Lockbit has listed Sabena Engineering, on its dark web forum, a typical maneuver wherein it threatens to release sensitive data if its ransom demands are not satisfied. The group has given a deadline for the payment of the ransom in cryptocurrency, failing which they threaten to publicize the stolen data.

Sabena Engineering, while providing crucial technical and engineering assistance in the F-16 jet supply chain, has maintained silence over the ransomware gang's assertions.

Meanwhile, the Dutch and Danish governments have indicated their intentions to supply fighter jets to Ukraine by 2024, with Belgium slated to contribute additional jets by 2025.
