Louisiana drivers data exposed in yet another MOVEit breach

The personal data of Louisiana driver's license holders is potentially at risk due to another instance of a cyber attack on MOVEit service associated with the Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) in Louisiana.

The data breach has compromised six million records at the Louisiana OMV, state officials said Friday.

Anyone who possesses a Louisiana state-issued driver's license, identification card, or car registration is likely to have had their personal information compromised by the cyber attackers. This includes their:

  • name
  • address
  • Social Security number
  • birthdate
  • height
  • eye color
  • driver's license number
  • vehicle registration information
  • handicap placard information.

The OMV has stated that, at present, there is no evidence to suggest that the cyber attackers have sold, used, shared, or released the OMV data obtained from the MOVEit attack. Furthermore, they have not made any contact with the state government regarding the incident.

To prevent hackers from opening new accounts or loans in your name, Louisiana officials encourage the citizens to freeze their credit through all three major credit bureaus, Experian, Equifax, and Transunion.

Update - The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles is offering free credit monitoring and identity theft protection for up to a year to state residents whose personal information was compromised in a data security incident in late May.
