Michigan State University (MSU) reported a data breach affecting two of its vendors, NSC (National Student Clearinghouse) and TIAA (Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America) and have potentially exposed personal data for individuals connected to the university.
The breach occurred in a cloud-based software platform used for transferring data files, impacting millions of people worldwide.
While no MSU-owned systems were affected, the university is working with the vendors to provide a list of potentially compromised individuals, who will be individually notified. The university didn't provide details as to the number of affected individuals.
MSU advised its community to be vigilant against phishing emails, use strong passwords, and enable multifactor authentication on all devices and accounts.
