Nations Direct Mortgage, LLC, a mortgage lender based in Santa Ana, California, is reporting a data breach after an unauthorized entity was discovered accessing its computer system.

Nations Direct Mortgage, LLC was established in 2007 and operates as a wholesale mortgage lender. The company is a direct seller to major entities such as Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae and offers a variety of loan products including FHA loans, VA loans, conventional mortgages, and second mortgages.

The breach was initially identified on December 30, 2023, when Nations Direct became aware of potential unauthorized access to its IT network. Immediate actions were taken to contain the breach, including notifying law enforcement and engaging third-party data security specialists to investigate.

The unauthorized access led to the exposure of sensitive customer information, including:

  • names,
  • addresses,
  • Social Security numbers,
  • Nations Direct loan numbers.

Over 83,000 individuals appear to be impacted by the breach. No details are disclosed about the nature of the breach.

Following the conclusion of an investigation into the breach, Nations Direct commenced the process of notifying affected individuals through data breach notification letters.
