NetJets private jet company investigating security incident, data breach

NetJets Inc., a private jet company owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway, is reporting it is investigating a data breach that occurred last month. 

The breach occurred when a hacker successfully phished an employee, stealing their work account credentials and using that access to exfiltrate additional information from NetJets' systems. According to sources familiar with the incident, the attacker attempted to extort the company following the data theft, though it remains unclear whether any ransom was paid. When questioned about potential ransom payments, the NetJets spokesperson declined to comment.

According to a NetJets spokesperson, "a limited amount of data for a very small number of owners was obtained," and the company has directly contacted each affected owner. The spokesperson emphasized that the incident did not impact the company's operations or its ability to service customers.

The number of affected individuals and types of exposed data are not disclosed. The investigation is ongoing, and the company is also examining whether employee data was compromised during the incident.
