New Era Enterprises, Inc. (NEEI) is reporting a data breach affecting policyholders, beneficiaries, independent agents, and employees across its various insurance entities, including New Era Life Insurance Company, New Era Life Insurance Company of the Midwest, Philadelphia American Life Insurance Company, and Life of America Insurance Company.

The security incident occurred between December 9, 2024, and December 18, 2024, when an unauthorized party breached NEEI's network. The company discovered the suspicious activity on December 18, 2024, and initiated an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident.

NEEI determined that an unauthorized individual had accessed their IT network and copied certain files from their systems exposing personal information belonging to various individuals associated with the company. The compromised information includes:

  • names, 
  • addresses, 
  • Social Security numbers, 
  • dates of birth, 
  • financial account information, 
  • health insurance policy numbers, 
  • Medicare identification numbers, 
  • data related to medical treatment or diagnosis.

The nature of the attack and the number of affected individuals has not been disclosed. On February 11, 2025, NEEI began mailing notification letters to the affected individuals.

Update - as of 14th of March 2025, NEEI reports that the breach is affecting over 335,500 people. New Era is offering affected individuals 12 months of complimentary identity and credit monitoring services.
