Following a 'security incident', online services and websites of several German Chambers of Crafts are currently offline, believed to be the result of a cyberattack on a managed service provider.
The incident, which was identified in the first week of January 2024, led to the shutdown of all systems in the affected chambers and the disconnection of their network connections, as reported on the parent organization's website.
While the affected websites indicate a 'system failure', they remain accessible via phone and email, and in-person visits are still possible. The incident is under intense investigation, with concerns about a potential data leak.
The 16 Chambers of Crafts in Germany, serving as essential trade associations and guilds, are crucial for vocational training and promoting craft industry interests. The general manager of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts, confirmed that scheduled exams and training courses will proceed, but online resources will be unavailable.
The timeframe for restoring full access to the Chambers' websites and online services remains uncertain.
