Oregon Zoo reports data breach exposing 100k online ticket purchasers

The Oregon Zoo has reported a data breach affecting over 100,000 visitors who purchased tickets online.
The breach was linked to a third-party vendor responsible for processing online ticket purchases, compromising sensitive payment card information for transactions made between December 20, 2023, and June 26, 2024.
The zoo became aware of the suspicious activity at the end of June 2024 and took down the compromised ticketing system. A subsequent month-long investigation determined the scope of the breach. A total of 117,815 individuals were impacted, with 77,234 of them being Oregon residents.
Exposed datai ncludes:
- Names
- Credit card numbers
- CVV codes
- Expiration dates
It remains unclear how the breach was initially detected. The zoo has replaced the affected ticketing platform.
Oregon soo sent out notifications to affected customers and is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection through Cyberscout.
