The attack compromised more than a dozen computers connected to the OPSO network. The agency reports that they continue to function normally due to network segregation that protected essential security systems.

Sheriff Susan Hutson confirmed the cyber incident during a video statement posted on social media, assuring the public that while administrative systems were impacted, the jail's computer infrastructure operates on a separate server and was not compromised.

No details are disclosed about compromised data or number of affected individuals.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office IT team is actively working to restore compromised systems, secure the network infrastructure, and investigate the origin of the ransomware attack. The agency has engaged multiple external cybersecurity resources to assist with incident response and recovery operations.

Update - as of 15th of September 2025, The Qilin ransomware group claimed responsibility the cyberattack and leaked administrative and financial documents including bank statements and internal incident reports from the law enforcement agency.
