Pan-American Life Insurance Group reported that they were a victim of a hack of the MOVEit file transfer software. The New Orleans-based insurer stated that the breach might have exposed personal information of customers.
Upon learning of the attack in early June, Pan-American Life ceased using MOVEit and implemented security fixes once available. By October, their investigation revealed that personal, medical, and financial records had been compromised.
Compromised information includes:
- names,
- addresses,
- Social Security numbers,
- dates of birth,
- driver’s license numbers,
- contact information,
- medical and medical benefits information,
- subscriber numbers,
- certain biometric data
- financial account and credit card information.
The company did not specify the number of affected customers.
Despite the lack of evidence of fraudulent use of the data, the delay in the company's disclosure of the incident has raised concerns. While the company has begun mailing notifications to affected individuals, the exact timing of these communications remains unclear. The company is offering 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to those impacted.
