People's Community Clinic (PCC), a healthcare provider in Austin, Texas, reports a data breach after attackers breached its computer systems and potentially viewed or stole sensitive files. PCC provides medical, dental, and behavioral health services to patients across Central Texas.

Security experts are investigating the systems to find out how much data was taken and how long the attacker was present in the network. The exposed data includes:

  • Full names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Home addresses
  • Dates of birth
  • Health insurance information
  • Medical records

The breach affected at least 1,788 people. The nature of the attack is not disclosed. PCC has not yet mailed formal notice letters to all victims. Individuals who used the services of PCC and may be exposed should check their credit reports and bank statements. The clinic is working with security experts to secure its network and prevent further attacks.

Law firms started investigations into the event and are checking if the clinic failed to use good security to protect patient data from hackers.
