The Petaluma Health Center recently informed current and former patients about a data breach that occurred in March.
The health center disclosed that an unauthorized party gained access to its network during a "network security incident" on March 14.
As a result, personal information of patients, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical information, and health insurance details, may have been compromised. The exact number of affected individuals has not been determined yet.
Although there is no evidence of specific misuse of patient information, the health center expressed deep concern for the privacy and security of the data in its possession. In the notice, health center leaders apologized for any inconvenience caused by the incident.
Upon discovering the breach, the health center promptly initiated an investigation and implemented measures to enhance network security, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future. Affected individuals have been notified in writing, and they have been offered complimentary credit monitoring services and identity theft protection.
