Pike County reports third party breach exposing data of over 33,000 Individuals

Pike County is reporting a data breach that compromised personal information of 33,174 current and former county employees and residents. 

The incident was a ransomware attack on the county's third-party information technology provider, Ohio Valley Technologies (OVT). Pike County learned of the breach on April 28, 2025.  The county initiated incident response procedures, engaged cybersecurity firms to conduct forensic analysis and notified fderal law enforcement agencies.

The ransomware attack resulted in unauthorized access to personal and financial information maintained by Pike County for administrative purposes. The compromised data includes:

  • Names of current and former county employees and residents
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver's license numbers
  • Bank account information
  • Personal information related to county administrative functions
  • Employee records and government service data

Pike County has not detected any fraudulent use of county information, unauthorized credit card activity, or misuse of bank account information related to the incident. Officials recommend that affected individuals monitor their bank statements, credit card accounts, and credit reports for any suspicious activity that could indicate unauthorized use of their personal information.
