PwC Australia faces another problem - MOVEit related data breach

Learn More

PwC Australia has become part of the MOVEit vulnerability breach executed by the hacker group CL0P.

PwC's impact via the cyberattack was first reported by media and subsequently confirmed by PWC - that it had employed MOVEit software for transferring select information. Following the discovery of the incident, PwC immediately ceased using the platform and initiated its own investigation.

No details are provided of exposed data or impacted customers.

The preliminary findings indicate that PwC's internal IT network has not been compromised, and the impact of the cyberattack on MOVEit has been limited. PwC has reached out to the small number of clients whose files were affected to address the situation.

PwC is already struggling with the fallout from a tax scandal that emerged when one of its partners was banned from tax practice in January for disclosing confidential information about government plans to combat tax avoidance. The information was shared with over 60 partners and staff members and offered to companies potentially targeted by the tax plans. As a result, ten partners have either stepped down or resigned, and the firm has been effectively barred from further government-related work.
