Ransomware Gang claims attack on US-Canada International Joint Commission

Learn More

The NoEscape ransomware group has asserted that it has targeted the International Joint Commission (IJC), an organization overseeing shared lake and river systems along the U.S.-Canada border. The IJC is responsible for resolving disputes between the two countries under the 1909 Boundary Waters Treaty and monitors air pollution.

The hackers claim to have copied 80GB of sensitive commission data, including confidential documents, legal papers, personal information of employees, and more, with a threat to release them unless a ransom is paid.

The U.S. and Canadian offices of the commission have not issued any report.

NoEscape, identified as a ransomware-as-a-service operation, is known for its affiliate program, where approved third parties can install the ransomware on IT systems for a fee.
