RiteCheck Cashing, Inc., a financial services company based in the Bronx, New York, is reporting a cyberattack that compromised the sensitive personal information of approximately 68,587 individuals. RiteCheck operates eleven locations across the Bronx and Harlem providing check cashing, money transfers, and other financial services
The breach occurred on August 25, 2024. The investigation confirmed that an unauthorized actor had gained access to a server containing sensitive personal information. Exposed data includes:
- Names
- Addresses
- Dates of birth
- Social Security numbers
- Driver's license numbers
- Government-issued ID numbers
- Payment card numbers
The nature of the attack is not disclosed.
RiteCheck formally reported the incident to the Maine Attorney General's office on July 28, 2025, and began mailing breach notification letters to affected individuals on the same date. The company has not explained the massive delay between the breach discovery date and the notification.
RiteCheck is providing affected individuals with twelve months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services.
