Finalsite, a provider of communication and website services for educational institutions, has suspended its operations after a security breach disrupted the communication capabilities for thousands of schools across multiple countries.
Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) in Tennessee reported on October 7, 2025, that Finalsite had taken its services offline "out of an abundance of caution" after experiencing a security incident.
The Connecticut-based company, which provides website hosting, content management, and mass notification services to more than 8,000 schools and universities worldwide across 115 countries, has left educational institutions scrambling to implement alternative communication systems.
Any potentially breached data has not been disclosed.
The nature of the incident has not been disclosed. Memphis-Shelby County Schools reported that while the company assured them on multiple occasions that MSCS data was not impacted by the breach. The suspension of Finalsite's platform has prevented schools from sending mass text messages, emails, and automated phone calls to parents and community members. Schools rely on these systems for emergency notifications, weather-related closures, schedule changes, and updates on school safety matters.
