Second potential data breach at 23andMe

Learn More

Genetic testing company 23andMe is currently investigating reports of a new data breach involving millions of user records.

A hacker, identified as "Golem," claims to have leaked 4 million genetic profiles of individuals in Great Britain and some of the wealthiest individuals residing in the U.S. and Western Europe.

This same hacker had previously stolen 1 million lines of genetic data from 23andMe earlier in the month and posted it on the BreachForums website.

According to 23andMe, the company is aware of this latest claim by the hacker and is currently reviewing the data to verify its legitimacy.

If unauthorized access is confirmed, affected customers will be notified. The breach appears to impact the DNA Relatives feature, which allows users to connect with potential genetic relatives on the platform.
