Sensata Technologies hit by ransomware attack, production disrupted

Massachusetts-based industrial technology manufacturer Sensata Technologies is reporting significant operational disruptions following a ransomware attack that began on Sunday 6th of April 2025. Sensata Technologies is producing sensors, electrical protection components and specialized tools for automotive, heavy vehicle and off-road, industrial, and aerospace market.

The company was forced to take its network offline and has reported the incident to both law enforcement and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The cyberattack has impacted multiple company's operations, including shipping, receiving, manufacturing production, and various support functions. Interim measures have been implemented to restore certain capabilities. Timeline for complete recovery is unknown.

The preliminary investigation has revealed evidence that files were exfiltrated from the company's environment during the attack. The number of affected individuals, and the types of exposed data are not disclosed.

Sensata has engaged cybersecurity experts to assist with recovery efforts and to identify which files were stolen, allowing for proper notification of individuals whose personal information may have been compromised.

Update - as of 9th of June 2025, Sensata Technologies reports that data was stolen during the ransomware attack. No ransomware groups have taken responsibility for the attack. Exposed data includes:

  • Address
  • Social Security Number (SSN)
  • Driver's license number
  • State ID card number
  • Passport number
  • Financial account information
  • Payment card information
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information
  • Date of birth

The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
