Texas Wesleyan University reports a cyberattack and an unauthorized cyber intrusion which led to the exposure of sensitive student information. On October 6, Texas Wesleyan University detected a network anomaly that triggered a swift response to sever connections to the compromised server and to bring in a cybersecurity firm for external assistance.
The incident is attributed to the Russian ransomware syndicate known as Cl0p, which became famous with the MOVEit hack that impacted hundreds of organizations worldwide. On November 8 that Cl0p had publicized data online.
The incident has exposed the following data:
- Social Security numbers,
- passport details,
- financial account data.
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed by the university.
On November 20, the university began notifying individuals whose personal data had been affected. Affected students were provided with complimentary services for credit monitoring and identity theft restoration from TransUnion.
