Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate claims executing a cyberattack targeting Russian state energy giant Gazprom on July 17, 2025. Gazprom is Russia's state-owned energy company and one of the world's largest gas producers and exporters.

The operation apparently resulted in damage to Gazprom's digital infrastructure, wiping critical data and rendering systems inoperable across the company's network. Claimed data breach includes:

  • Corporate databases containing contracts, orders, and directives for Gazprom and its subsidiaries
  • Backup copies of critical information systems across all affected entities
  • Analytics databases for pipelines, valves, sensors, pumps, and SCADA systems
  • Financial records including gas and oil supply contracts, payment data, taxes, and financial balances
  • Technical infrastructure data controlling pressure, flow rates, and gas/oil balances
  • Information on wells, pipelines, and operational licenses
  • User profiles and electronic digital signatures for over 20,000 employees
  • Administrative and security system data
  • Server control and data protection systems

The nature of the attack is not disclosed.

The attack apparently affected approximately 390 subsidiary companies and branches, including major entities such as Gazprom Teplo Energo, Gazprom Obl Energo, and Gazprom Energozbyt.

Gazprom and Russian authorities have not yet provided any official comment on the reported incident.
