University at Buffalo (UB) School of Dental Medicine (UB Dental) has reported a data breach at a third party Data Media Associates, LLC (DMA), an external organization providing billing services. DMA has communicated to clinic authorities that it was affected by a MOVEit software vulnerability and subsequent data breach that occurred earlier during the summer.
The systems directly managed by UB Dental were neither breached nor compromised. DMA has patched its MOVEit system in accordance with the developer's guidelines and conducted a thorough investigation
The impacted group is believed to be limited to patients 765 patients of UB Denta; who received billing statements from UB Dental between May 4 and May 26.
The compromised information includes:
- practice demographics,
- patient account numbers,
- patient names,
- guarantor demographics,
- statement dates,
- amounts due,
- service dates,
- service/payment descriptions,
- charge amounts,
- payments,
- adjustments.
Credit card information and Social Security Numbers were not part of the breached data.
UB Dental is taking proactive measures to address this issue and safeguard patient interests. Affected patients will receive direct communication via mail this week, outlining steps they can take to monitor their credit and protect their personal information.
