University of Waterloo investigating ransomware attack

The University of Waterloo reports that it is conducting an investigation into a suspected ransomware attack that targeted its on-premises email server.
They are also assessing the impact on other online systems and collaborating with law enforcement agencies, including the Royal Canadian Mountain Police.
The attack affected only 12 email accounts of either faculty or staff, with no students impacted. As a precautionary measure, all system users will be required to reset their passwords.
