The Washington Center for Deaf & Hard of Hearing Youth (CDHY) has reported a cybersecurity incident, caused by a ransomware attack.

The breach was detected on December 16, 2023, with initial disruptions beginning around December 14, 2023. CDHY secured their systems and engaged cybersecurity experts to assist in investigating and mitigating the incident. The organization has informed federal and state law enforcement.

The investigation confirmed that data of individuals may have been compromised, including:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Dates of birth
  • Driver’s license or state identification card numbers
  • Student, military, or passport identification numbers
  • Medical history, diagnosis, or treatment information

No details were disclosed about the number of affected individuals.

The majority of individuals potentially affected by this incident have been notified via U.S. mail. CDHY is offering credit monitoring and identity restoration services through Kroll at no cost.
