Webb Institute Marine Engineering College reports cybersecurity incident affecting over 1,500 people

Webb Institute, a private marine engineering college located in Glen Cove, New York, is reporting a cybersecurity incident that compromised the personal information of 1,520 individuals.

Webb Institute discovered the cybersecurity incident in September 2024 and began working with third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate and respond to the breach. The college provided preliminary notification to potentially affected individuals on September 30, 2024, just days after discovering the attack. 

The attack appears to have targeted the institution's information systems containing personal data related to students, faculty, staff, and potentially other stakeholders connected to the college. Details about the nature of the attack, and exposed data types are not disclosed.
