WebTPA Employer Services, LLC, a company providing administrative services for benefit plans and insurance companies including Transamerica Life Insurance Company, reported a data breach on April 11th, 2024. WebTPA, based in Irving, Texas, is part of GuideWell Mutual Holding Corporation. It specializes in creating custom health plans.
The breach was first detected due to unusual activity on December 28, 2023, prompting a security response and an investigation with external data security experts. The investigation revealed that an unauthorized party accessed sensitive customer data between April 18, 2023, and April 23, 2023.
The compromised data includes personal information such as names and Social Security numbers of Transamerica customers. No details are disclosed about the nature of the attack or number of affected individuals.
Update - as of 17th of May 2024, WebTPA disclosed that the breach affected 2,429,175 individuals and that the breach occurred on a “network server.”
WebTPA began sending out data breach notification letters to affected individuals on April 11, 2024.
