Welcome Health, a home healthcare company based in Whittier, California, is reporting a data breach.
The unauthorized access was detected on July 8, 2024. It was determined that the unauthorized party had access to the employee's email account from June 11, 2024, to July 8, 2024. The breach was caused by the compromise of an employee's email credentials, which allowed the unauthorized party to access emails and attachments containing sensitive information.
After detecting the suspicious activity, Welcome Health terminated the unauthorized access and initiated an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts. The investigation concluded on August 12, 2024, confirming that consumer data had been exposed.
The exposed data includes:
- Names
- Dates of birth
- Social Security numbers
- Health plan numbers
- Claims numbers
- Dates of service
- Medical information
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
Welcome Health began sending out data breach notification letters to affected individuals on September 6, 2024.
