Wineberg Solheim Howell & Shain, P.C. (WSHS), a Chicago-based certified public accounting and financial advisory firm, is reporting a data breach following unauthorized access to their computer network. The breach exposed sensitive customer information and prompted the firm to begin notifying affected individuals.

WSHS first detected suspicious activity within their computer network on November 13, 2024. The firm launched an investigation with assistance from external cybersecurity specialists. The investigation confirmed that an unauthorized actor had accessed and acquired certain files containing confidential consumer information on the WSHS network.

The exposed data includes:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • IRS identity protection PINs
  • Driver's license numbers
  • Health insurance information

The nature of the attack and the number of affected individuals has not been disclosed.

On March 18, 2025, the firm began sending data breach notification letters to all impacted individuals.
