Young Life, a Colorado-based religious organization founded in 1941, is reporting a data breach affecting 51,226 individuals, including current and former employees and their dependents.

The unauthorized access began on June 13, 2024, and was detected the following day when Young Life identified suspicious activity within its computer network. The organization's investigation confirmed that the incident involved a malware attack, allowing hackers to gain access to their systems.

The unauthorized party gained access to:

  • names,
  • Social Security numbers,
  • financial account information,
  • payment card information

belonging to current and former employees and their dependents. The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.

The organization has begun the process of notifying those impacted. Despite the stated quick detection and containment of the breach, the notification to affected individuals didn't occur until December 12, 2024, approximately six months after the incident.
