Bank of Canton reports MOVEit related data breach

A MOVEit vulnerability related data breach has affected approximately 9,540 customers of the Bank of Canton

The data breach occurred due to a cyber security incident involving one of the bank's vendors, Fiserv, around or on May 27, 2023.

The Bank of Canton explained that the cyber incident originated from a problem with Fiserv's MOVEit Managed File Transfer application. This software, used by companies across the nation, became a target for hackers after vulnerabilities in its security were revealed. Fiserv informed the Bank of Canton on August 3 that customer data may have been accessed due to these vulnerabilities. While the bank has found no evidence of customer fraud related to this incident, affected clients have the option to enroll in a complimentary two-year identity protection service, which includes services such as credit monitoring, fraud consultation, and identity theft restoration. Additionally, customers can choose to receive security alerts notifying them of potential fraudulent charges on their accounts.
