Boyd Gaming hit by cyberattack exposing employee data

Boyd Gaming Corporation, a Las Vegas-based gaming and casino operator, is reporting a cybersecurity incident that resulted in unauthorized access to its internal IT systems and the theft of company data. 

Boyd Gaming operates 28 gaming properties in ten states including Nevada, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, as well as managing a tribal casino in northern California.

After detecting the breach, Boyd Gaming started an investigation with external cybersecurity experts and notified federal law enforcement authorities. The investigation confirmed that the unauthorized third party removed certain data from Boyd Gaming's IT systems. The compromised information is not disclosed other than it contained employee data and information belonging to what the company described as "a limited number of other individuals." 

The nature of the attack and the number of affected individuals is not disclosed.

Boyd Gaming has begun the process of notifying all impacted individuals directly.  The company claims that its gaming properties and business operations are not affected.
