Coastal Plains Community MHMR Center is reporting a data breach after identifying unauthorized access to its computer system.
Founded in 1996 and based in Beeville, Texas, Coastal Plains Community MHMR Center offers various behavioral health services, including intellectual and developmental disability services, adult mental health services, veterans outreach, and substance abuse services.
The breach was detected on November 13, 2023, when Coastal Plains noticed suspicious activity indicative of a ransomware attack. The organization secured its systems, notified law enforcement, and engaging cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident. The investigation confirmed that unauthorized access occurred between November 12 and November 13, 2023, compromising files containing confidential patient data. The exposed information of patients includes:

- Dates of birth
- Social Security numbers
- Driver’s license numbers
- Passport numbers
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
- Financial account information
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
Coastal Plains began notifying affected individuals and sending data breach notification letters to provide details about the compromised information.
