Colombia court system offline due to cyber attack on hosting provider

Learn More

Colombia convened an urgent meeting with security forces after a cyber attack rendered over two dozen government websites inoperable.

The attack specifically targeted IFX Networks, a web hosting provider for the government, severely disrupting the judicial branch's online operations. Judges were unable to schedule court hearings or conduct any online proceedings. The attack also impacted various other entities, including the Health and Culture ministries and several superintendencies.

The assault seemed to be an extortion attempt on IFX Networks using ransomware. It remains unclear if individuals whose data was stored on the affected government websites were adversely affected. The National Police’s cyber intelligence unit, PMU Ciber, initiated an investigation into the impact on citizens and other websites, hosting the emergency meeting attended by representatives from the prosecution and government.

Most judicial websites hosted by IFX Networks were restored within 24 hours of the attack's onset. Nonetheless, certain websites remained offline even after the restoration efforts.
