A hacker collective has allegedly exposed the personal information of over 1,000 U.S. government officials from multiple federal agencies in a data breach. Members of the group known as the Com, a community of hackers with connections to the hacking collective Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters, are currently distributing the leaked data through private Telegram channels.

The breach reportedly exposed personal information belonging to approximately 680 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials, 170 Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents, and 190 Department of Justice (DOJ) officials. Exposed data includes:

  • Government email addresses
  • Personal names
  • Phone numbers
  • Residential addresses

The origin of the data is not clear. The leaked information could have been compiled from previous data breaches. A scarier scenario is that it may be a result of a new and yet-to-be-announced government security breach. The hackers have already shared multiple spreadsheets containing this private information on their communication channels.

The number of affected individuals is approximately 1,040 people

The affected agencies have not yet issued public statements regarding the breach or provided guidance to impacted officials.
